My helmet design was originally done back in 1981 when I started karting. It was a McNish tartan band around the top of the helmet & similar to that of another Scot, Jackie Stewart. Back then it was painted by a friend of my father's and it took 24 hours to complete! The design has changed slightly through time & we have incorporated a chequered flag replacing the plain top with the tartan band became a swoosh that flows around the front & sides.

A helmet design is a very personal thing for any driver. It is the most visible part when they are in the car, in fact the design reflects the personality of the driver and is much more than a piece of safety equipment with a fancy paintwork.
